Love: As You Like ItLove: As You Like It is an independent film production directed by M. Sonja Vasankari, from 2012. It's well-performed and edited down to an hour. Though there's plenty of consistency between the scenes, so many of them are undertaken using different concepts that it feels like a focused exhibition of experimental takes on this one comedy. As You Like It, though famous, can come across as the most cryptic of the comedies. It's fascinating to see how some of the ideas in this film can zero in on very specific aspects of the play. (A favorite of mine is the "Seven Ages of Man" speech, performed by Hugo Martin's Jacques as lead-balloon stand-up, giving the almost too-well-known text a much more obdurate--and painfully reflective--surface.)

And here is Annie Dillard's brilliant piece on the phenomenon, which will make you love both nature and non-fiction writing more than you already do. It's hard to appreciate something uncommon just because we know it's rare. In order to get the most out of your eclipse experience this week, give her essay a look--especially if you can't get close to one of the prime viewing spots, or are opting to skip the whole damn thing altogether. So what if some of us can't directly see it? Doesn't mean we can't celebrate it. Here.
